Hamnet Shakespeare is the only son of Anne and William Shakespeare.
In Real Life[]
Hamnet was Anne and William Shakespeare’s only son. He was born and baptized at Holy Trinity Church after Judith and before Susanna in February 2 1585. At an early age, Hamnet’s father, William Shakespeare, has already became a playwright in London. In August 11 1596, Hamnet died and was buried at Holy Trinity Church. His death has been a mystery. Most Shakespearean scholars claim the bubonic plague killed him. In Upstart Crow, Ben Elton reflects the existence of God and Hamnet’s death in Go On And I Will Follow, where Hamnet has also died of the plague.
In Upstart Crow[]
Hamnet, along with Judith, is a really minor character and during the most of Season 1, it seemed Anne didn't give birth to them yet. The twins did appear in The Apparel Proclaims The Man but the actors that played them in that episode were replaced more known older actors in Season 2 and 3. Hamnet's main appearances are in Sigh No More where he is interested in becoming a solider but, Anne quickly disapproves of it and keeps him away from Sergeant Dogberry. In Go On And I Will Follow, Hamnet is about to go to his confirmation but dies from the bubonic plague (as actually happened in real life). In A Crow Christmas Carol, his family is still mourning over his death but eventually get over it. Hamnet and Judith both seem to be addicted to sugar sticks they receive when Will returns home.
